MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR 2017

Welcome to Goostrey Rose Day 2017. I hope that everyone will enjoy the procession and the events at the church, in the village hall and on the field. We are continuing a tradition that began over 100 years ago.

I am greatly indebted to the Rose Festival committee who have worked throughout the year to make sure that the children's parties in March and Rose Day itself run smoothly. However there are scores of other people who help in many ways and I thank each and every one of them.

Congratulations to Abigail Burgess who has been chosen as Rose Queen for 2017 and to Molly Withe our Rosebud Queen. This will be a memorable year for them both.

We must thank our retiring Rose Queen Charlotte Harvey and her attendants. Since last June they have represented Goostrey and joined in the celebrations at various Rose Days and Fetes in neighboring villages.

This year our President is Martin Leake. He has lived in Goostrey for over 30 years and has been involved in many activities in the community, including helping to organise Rose Day.

We have three special guests who will be taking part in the procession and the crowning ceremony. The Gold Rose Queen is Alison Rawlinson nee Schofield, the Silver Rose Queen is Kathryn Johnson nee Palmer and 50 years ago Michael McCartney was the Crown Bearer. I am sure that they will have many memories from past Rose Days to share.

Goostrey is delighted to welcome children and teachers from our partner school in South Africa. They will be in the procession and will dance on the field after the crowning ceremony.

Thanks go to Goostrey Parish Council and to our patrons for their generous donations and to local businesses whose support has enabled us to distribute this souvenir programme free of charge.

I hope you enjoy reading the programme but don't forget that Goostrey Rose Festival has a website with information and photos at www.goostreyrosefestival.co.uk . We also have a Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/GoostreyRoseFestival/?fref=nf

Best Wishes
